Too vegetable-heavy, poor customer service, and what's up with the no salad dressings?

For starters, the first encounter I had with this service is when i attempted to change my payment method to a different credit card before I had received my first order. Although I understand the first payment had already processed, I wished the recurring payment to be billed to a different card going forward. I was unable to change my card on the website, and I went through several tiers of phone customer service only to find out they could not//would not help me, either. I instead chose to terminate my service, although I still had that first (and last) delivery outstanding. When I received my delivery of 3 meals, I was very glad I'd gone ahead and cancelled before committing to a 2nd delivery.

All of the meals I received were less than satisfactory. The first one was a salad, but in lieu of dressing they just supplied plain apple cider vinegar. ACV may be trendy, but I've never found that it makes for much of a dressing, even when mixed with one's own oil. I used my own balsamic vinegar instead (in addition to the aforementioned oil). The amount of vinegar they sent, as well as the protein (pancetta), were laughably inadequate for the amount of vegetables. This is nothing compared to the next meal, also a salad of sorts -- no dressing again; instead they just sent a small blop of flavored mayonnaise for an enormous salad. The protein in this alleged bulgogi salad was a huge disappointment, too -- I had thought from the picture that it would be pork strips, but it was ground pork. Not great in salads. The 3rd dish was the best, but again not that exciting -- a small amount of coconut shrimp accompanied by, you guessed it, a huge salad (no dressing). What is the deal with salad dressing? Did it get cancelled when I wasn't looking? Well, huge heaps of raw vegetables taste like crap without it. Plus, eating half a raw daikon (as the 2nd recipe prompted me to do) made my stomach hurt. A lot. In fact, I had a stomachache for the entire 3 days we did Sunbasket. I've tried 7 meal delivery services, and they were the 2nd most expensive, but by far the worst.

Became ill and could not reach anyone who cared

I hate to have to write a bad review about a company. Specifically one that is sustainable. I have to, however, because I can't get anyone at Sunbasket to listen to me, return my correspondence or care. I became very ill this weekend, violently so, after consuming the Lettuce-wrapped burgers with spicy chraime carrot salad. I was unable to reach a person during the weekend and so sent an email - to which I have received no response. Yesterday I called their customer service and was promised a call back. No call and it's a day later. Today I texted customer service and received a response saying that they see my complaint and someone will call me. I am very worried that other people are also eating the bad meal (I suspect the ground chicken) and are becoming ill or have already become ill. There seems to be no way to warn other consumers. So far, Sunbasket has not even offered to credit me for the meal. Within a few hours after eating the meal I became extremely dizzy, had diarrhea and vomited. It's taken me several days to start to feel fully like myself. WARNING! If you have a problem, even a serious food safety problem, with this company's meals, no one seems to care. I'm appalled. I couldn't stop my next delivery and am too afraid to eat the rest of the meals I was sent.

Blaming the wrong service.

I need to make amends in regard to my review of Sunbasket..turns out it was Fedex who dropped the ball numerous times..when I tried a different carrier and actually received the food in a timely manner, I was very pleased with Sunbasket..their food and offerings are top notch, and I want to make sure everyone who read the other review does not get the wrong impression about Sunbasket's super quality.

Potential but horrible customer service and shady practices

This company has so much potential. The meals are tasty. The mistakes and mishaps and customer service is HORRIBLE. So shady too. I don’t want a credit for being sent the wrong meal. I want a refund. Ok no problem. What happens? It still shows up as a credit. That’s only one highlighted issue. Just the lack of transparency with credits and charges has me never returning to this service. Step up your game or you’ll lose out on potentially valuable customers.

Customer service is terrible

I'm adding yet another complaint about delivery, website malfunction, and trying to contact. Don't know about the food because it never arrived.

Delicious, Fresh Meals

SunBasket is one of my favorites. I love the variety and ease of the recipes.
I used them for over 2 years. When I needed to cancel due to a move, it was super easy. Now that I'm able, I'm re-starting with them again.

Don’t Bother

This could really be the best meal delivery service out there if they would just fire On Trac and use another delivery service. I have tried three times now over a few years and it has just never gotten better. My FIRST delivery this time around was late. I immediately canceled. Three strikes and you’re out!

Don’t Start

Tried the service. Did not realize you had to choose better quality protein. So got the standard dark meat chicken and pollock.
Ok, I had a coupon, not a big deal. Wanted to cancel. Could not reach customer service for 50 minutes. Hung up. Wrote email. Received email back saying account was cancelled. ASSUMED my credit card was not still on file.
Then te weeks later I just wanted to see how much better quality protein would cost. A week later I am receiving a $91 order!!!! Only got an email saying it was coming the next day. I NEVER completed the order, I thought. Don’t get involved! I called the company, they can not and won’t do anything about the problem. I demanded they delete my credit card!

The delivery crew is terrible

The delivery crew is terrible. I live in an apartment & they just leave my food in the lobby downstairs. Once they left it at my front door, but after that it’s been a big problem . 3 emails to customer service did not help. My new Monday morning job is contacting sunbasket about the problem. Axlehire is very poor service. Too bad we like the food but too much trouble. Will now cancel this service. I was recommending this to friends but now I will tell them of all the problems.

Very disappointed lately....

In the beginning of our at least two year subscription Sun Basket was excellent. Slowly the excellence declined! This past year and I can blame a small amount on Covid it has been terrible! Yes I have received small credits towards future meals but that’s not the fact. The fact is the forgetting of ingredients or our meals not getting here till mid week. We plan our M-Th meals on the Sunday before the week so it’s unacceptable that our meals have been arriving on Wednesdays or whenever they decide to get here (delivery is supposed to be Monday of each week). We usually eat out on the weekends so by the time the second meal from SB is cooked the ingredients aren’t very fresh.

Poor quality groceries and their prep times are out of wack!

I cannot believe how much they charge compared to the quality of the commodities. Groceries are usually in poor shape when they arrive and do not last more than two days for produce. The prep times listed should be doubled. I have worked in commercial kitchens for 30 years and have yet to do a meal in the time suggested.

TERRIBLE delivery in LA area.

Hey, Sun Basket, stop using "Axelhire" for your delivery in Southern California. You claim to be ethical then hire a company that severely underpays and exploits their workers. I literally don't care how cheap they are, you are losing customers because the Axelhire service is TERRIBLE, and why wouldn't it be? It's no wonder the workers don't care about properly delivering things considering they're paid dust. I had them leave my Sun Basket in the sun on the wrong side of my house on a busy street directly under a sign that said "no deliveries here" with clear instructions on how to properly deliver. Your "fresh food" was spoiled because you're too cheap to hire a shipping company and are resorting to what's essentially a scam.

It's a shame, because otherwise I'd leave you 5 stars. The meals are great! But I'm about to cancel my subscription because you wanted to cut corners and hire Axelhire. I'm not the first one to do this and I won't be the last. I don't care how cheap they are, IT'S NOT WORTH LOSING CUSTOMERS.
